The school employs the services of two pshychologists

The task of the psychologists includes the following:

  • Dealing with applications to Paarl School. (Referral procedure: the application is initiated by the learner’s current school, processed by the school psychologist at the local District Office and is then approved by the WCED head office.  In the case of  pre-school learners, all applications first need to be processed by the school psychologist at the closest District Office to the learner’s residential address, before it ican be approved by the WCED head office.)
  • Co-ordinating the multi-disciplinary team which evaluates learners in order to determine what intervention is necessary and whether placement is appropriate or not.
  • Providing emotional and psycho-social support for learners.
  • Psychometric testing.
  • Parental guidance.
  • Conducting annual follow-up meetings of learners’ progress through the medium of team discussions and parent interviews.
  • Telephonic queries are fielded and visitors are escorted through the school.
  • Form part of the team who represents Paarl School as resource centre (by providing advice and guidelines to schools, parents, therapists and teachers).
